Youth Hockey Tournament Divisions

Fees
Team fee $200 per team
*If tournament cancelled (warm/rain out) you will have the option of $100.00 back or your team will be automatically entered in the next tournament for your age group*

To Register
Teams can register by Visa or Mastercard over the phone by calling Sandcastle (519) 966-7263.  Teams can also register by Debit or through cash or cheque at Sandcastles main office 3901 Huron Church Rd (enter off Todd Lane).

Registration Deadlines
For the first tournament in every age division teams can register immediately (First come first served as there are limited spots available). 

For the second tournament in each age division eight teams can pre register and an additional eight spots must be reserved until after the first tournament in case warm weather cancellations push the first tournaments teams into these spots.

To register for the third tournament in each age group you must wait until the second event in your age group has successfully completed.

Divisions
Tyke, Novice Atom and Pee Wee

Layout
3 players on ice – 3 players ready to sub in on the referees signal.

2 minute shifts (referee will signal changes)

No Goaltenders

2 Fifteen minute running periods

Three games Guaranteed

Divisions
Bantam, Midget, juvenile and adult divisions

Same rules as above except players substitute themselves on the fly and the minimum number of players on your roster is 4 while the maximum is 6.

Ice Surface
100 ft x 50 ft approximately

Surface will be scraped by you the player or your team managers before each game.

POND HOCKEY RULES
Tyke, Novice, Atom and Pee Wee divisions:

All players must wear full equipment.  Skates, shin pads, hockey pants, Cup, shoulder pads, elbow pads, neck protector, and helmet with full-face shield.

Tyke, Novice, Atom and Pee Wee divisions must have a manager that will ensure players attend each game on time and follow all tournament rules.  The Manager must be at least 21 years of age and must be with his or her team the entire time they are at Sandcastle.  More than one adult can act as manager as long as their names are submitted at the beginning of the tournament.

Any teams late for games will be penalized 1 goal per minute. After 5 minutes, the late team will forfeit the game with a 10-0 score awarded to the opponent. There will be no rescheduled games for missed games late teams.

Bantam, Midget, Juvenile, and Adult divisions:

  • Must wear Skates, shin pads, gloves and helmet. 
  • All teams must have both light and dark uniforms on hand.
  • Waiver forms must be signed by both the players and parents or guardian  and delivered to sandcastle at least one week prior to each tournament.
  • Players and or managers will be required to shovel the ice surface 10 minutes prior to their scheduled games.  (Shovels will be provided).
  • No goalie equipment or goal stick permitted.
  • There will be one off ice pond official to monitor play (keep score, time, change puck possessions, and call minor and major penalties.
  • Penalties will be called for rule infractions. Penalties called by referees are final.  A minor penalty will result in a goal awarded to the opposing team as well as possession of puck. Referees  will be momentarily stop play and notify both teams when a goal is awarded due to a minor penalty.
  • Any major penalties which include any type of action that could injure another player will result in ejection from the tournament as well as an immediate goal being given to the opposing team, possession of the puck to the opposing team and no substitution will be allowed to take that players place (so your team would be short handed for the remainder of that game.

Major penalties will include:

  • Initiating a fight
  • Dangerous stick or body checking
  • Abuse of officials or staff
  • Yelling, Swearing or arguing calls

Minor penalties include:

  • Tripping
  • Hooking
  • Slashing
  • Body contact
  • Holding
  • Laying the stick or your body down in the goal crease etc.
  • Contacting the puck with a stick above the waist will result in a loss of possession.
  • If the puck goes out of bounds the last team to touch the puck looses possession.  During the re-start the defender must give his opponent 2 stick lengths for space.
  • There are no off sides or icings calls
  • Goals must be scored from the attacking side of center ice.
  • Teams must give their opponents half ice after a goal.
  • There is one three minute overtime period should the game be tied at the end of regulation time.   First goal wins.
  • Teams are not allowed to lift the puck.  If a puck is lifted possession goes to the opposing team.  Play will continue if the puck is deflected into the air but players must either allow the puck to hit the ice or grab it with their hands and place it down for themselves to play.
  • No slap shots
  • Sticks must not go over your knee when shooting
  • The team that is scored upon must move the puck over half ice within 20 second of being scored upon.  Any delay of game such as shooting the puck out of play on purpose will be called as a minor penalty.
  • Winner of the captains coin toss will be given the option of choosing taking the puck out first or choosing which side of the rink to defend.
  • Teams will switch ends at halftime
  • Goaltending is not allowed, a player may not patrol, camp out or remain stationary in the crease area and act as a goaltender.
  • A defender may deflect the puck in the crease area but he or she must do so while continuing to move through the crease area.
  • The crease area is an imaginary box extending out four feet from the outside corners of the goal.
  • Referees will call out the score after each goal and flip the scorecard.  This includes goals scored by players or goals awarded through minor penalties.

 

Site information

No outside food or drink allowed on Sandcastle property.

Lost and found will be located in Sandcastle's main hallway.

Dress appropriately for rapid weather changes.

All night games will be run under the lights.

Sandcastle reserves the right to cancel tournaments based on poor ice conditions caused by warm weather or stormy conditions.

All teams registered for the first 2 tournaments in every age class will be automatically registered in the next scheduled tournament date for that age group if weather conditions do not allow us to run the tournament.  Please see schedule for your age groups next scheduled tournament.

Sandcastle is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.

An area of picnic tables will be available for each team to change your skates.  This area is directly adjacent to the rinks.
