Schedule Each volleyball session will include regular league games, playoffs, one night of finals and a tournament of champions day which is open to all league teams. The schedule for each evening of play will be posted outside the courts no later then 6pm. Inclement Weather (Summer Leagues Only) In the event of inclement weather leagues may be delayed but all teams must still be ready to play at 6:30pm. Please do not call Sandcastle regarding weather delays. Tier System A rotating team schedule will be used to determine who each team will play. Overall records will determine the playoff tiering. After each week, the top 2 teams in each tier will move up and the bottom 2 will move down. Tiebreakers Tiebreakers will be determined using the following format: Overall record Head to head Plus/minus (head to head) Plus/minus (entire pool) Game to 5 points - first team to five wins Coin toss if game to 5 not possible End of Season Same as with tiebreakers except that a team which finishes in a higher tier is ranked higher (this system will be used before a 5 point game) Refereeing Teams not playing will be scheduled to referee/score matches on their court. It is important that you complete those duties as everyone takes their turn sharing the responsibility. If a team neglects their refereeing/scoring duties, they will be assessed a penalty (i.e. forfeiting all games played that evening). If the problem occurs again, the team will be suspended from league play. Net Violations Reaching Beyond The Net In blocking, a blocker may touch the ball beyond the net, provided that he/she does not interfere with the opponentís play before or during the latterís attack hit. An opponent may never spike a ball taotally within the other teams side of the net. Contact With The Net Contact with the net or antenna is not a fault, EXCEPT when a player touches the net or antenna during his/her action of playing or attempting to play the ball, or if it interferes with the play. Team Composition If 6 players - minimum of 3 women and maximum of 3 men If 5 players - minimum of 2 women and maximum of 3 men If 4 players - minimum of 2 women and maximum of 2 men If 3 players - team forfeits but can play for fun. Rotation The holes must rotate, no exceptions. The hole is the space created when a team is missing one or more players. The hole takes the place of the missing player(s). Rotation system involving the entire team must be done without skipting players or changing order of players or delaying the game. This must continue for the entire game. Players rotating in must be accounted for before the game. If a team begins a game with 4 or 5 players and a 5th or 6th player arrives that player may enter the game immediately for the empty spot (i.e. hole). When the hole rotates to the serving position, it is a loss of serve and a point is awarded to the opposing team. Only players in the front row may attempt to block. Players in the back row may hit, however they must clearly be playing the ball while in the back row and not near the net. Substitutions/Alternates Teams are permitted to sign up ìsubsî in the event that team members are not available to participate during a particular week. NO player may participate with another team if they are registered with another team from the same night/league. This will result in a forfeit of all games for that night. Before participating, the team must notify the league convener of the substitute(s) and place their name on the team roster for that week of play. Substitutes must be on the roster and have played for a least one quarter of the season to be eligible for playoffs and Tournament of Champions. Service Service-Execution Serving is allowed from anywhere along the length of the service baseline. The ball must be hit with one hand or any part of the arm after being tossed or released from the hand(s). There can only be one service attempt. Service-Ball Touching The Net While crossing the net, the ball may touch the top of the net and still be in play. Service-Reception Players may only bump or volley the serve. The ball must not be held during contact. Players cannot block or spike the serve. Any first ball ove the net may be double hit, unless it is clearly a held ball. Contact with the ball can be made below the knee (essentially you can receive the ball on the serve or any first ball over the net anywhere on the body) providing it is not held ball. Starting Time and Schedule All games must start no later than 6:30pm. Any team(s) which fails to fied sufficient players by 30 minutes after the start time of 6:30pm, will forfeit all six games for the night. When a team fails to field sufficient players for its first scheduled game but does so before the 30 minute time limit, that team will forfeit only its first game (15 minute maximum wait). Teams must follow the exact schedule set for each court. Teams should minimize the breaks between games, and must be ready within ìreasonableî time to start the next game. Rally Point System and Winning A Set A point is awarded on all serves. When the "hole" serves, it automatically loses its serve and the opposing team is awarded 1 point. A set is won by the team which first scores 21 points with a lead of two points. The maximum point limit is 23. Playoff Format All teams qualify for playoffs. Overall win/loss record will determine teamís seeding for the playoffs. On the final night, all teams will play for seed position. Single elimination rounds based on performance in previous round.
